Expressions of interest are sought for the role of Medical Laboratory Assistant (Band 3) 1.0 WTE post in the Neuroimmunology & CSF Laboratory based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The laboratory is a national reference centre and has an international reputation for the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid.

The NHS Neuroimmunology and CSF laboratory (UCLH) provides acute Neurological Laboratory services to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (UCLH) and the London region, plus specialised diagnostic and monitoring laboratory services to the UK and beyond.

  • We are looking for an individual who will fulfil the following criteria and skills:
  • An interest in science, ideally with previous MLA experience in a laboratory or hospital environment
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to follow good laboratory practice and maintain a high quality service.
  • Ability to plan and organise workload
  • Excellent communication skills with all calibres of staff working in the environment.
  • Proficient with the use of information technology systems within the area.
  • Have a flexible approach to hours and work being undertaken.

The department is fully accredited with UKAS ISO 15189 certification and all staff are encouraged to participate in CPD activities. The Laboratory is open 9.00-5.30, Monday-Friday with no out-of-hours service currently.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a core member of the specimen reception section of the Neuroimmunology & CSF Laboratory and as such will assist in diagnostic service providing support for the team of Biomedical, Clinical and MTO scientific staff.
