Job overview

The Department of Laboratory Haematology (Blood Transfusion) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to support the delivery of services within our exciting University Health Board. The role is within the Blood Transfusion Laboratory at the University Hospital of Wales and will support the existing staff to provide a first class service. It is a part-time role. Previous experience of laboratory working would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

The Haematology and Transfusion Laboratory provides a diagnostic service for the City of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and provides tertiary services for the larger population of South Wales and beyond. The department is seeking to expand the team of Medical Laboratory Assistants to provide a service within the Blood Transfusion Laboratory. The post will be primarily at the University Hospital of Wales which has many specialities and is the designated Major Trauma Centre for Wales. Support will be provided to individuals to develop skills and knowledge of the appropriate sections within the Blood Transfusion laboratory. In return we expect a commitment to deliver against high standards within our Quality Management System.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
