Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife with knowledge of maternity governance to join our team at Liverpool Womens Hospital as the Maternity Governance and Risk Midwife. This role will focus on ensuring high-quality and safe maternity care through oversight, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives within our maternity service. This role involves coordinating incident investigations, developing and implementing policies, and promoting a culture of learning and improvement

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Director of Midwifery, the Head of Midwifery, their deputies and the Clinical Director for the Family Health Division in the ongoing management and oversight of all work streams related to maternity governance. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Quality & Safety Matron, Divisional Governance Manager and Consultant Lead for Maternity Risk & Safety. You will be an integral member of the maternity governance  team in fostering a culture amongst teams that ensures clinical quality and risk management remains one of the top priorities within the division through:

  • Enabling all staff to actively participate in identifying, actioning and evaluating all patient safety and risk issues;
  • Leading and supporting the communication and management of the issues through Ulysses in line with LWH policy
  • Maintain management and oversight of all PMRT and MNSI investigations and work-stream (non exhaustive)

The post holder will have a unique opportunity to continue to develop the clinical governance role and risk management knowledge both locally and regionally.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Take a proactive approach to ensure that the Maternity Division implements defined national and organisational standards, demonstrating their effective application at all levels.
  • Lead on the monitoring and implementation of effective processes to achieve relevant quality targets.
  • Provide the division with expert advice and leadership on governance and assurance issues.
  • In partnership with the Clinical Lead for Maternity, Consultant Obstetrician Lead for Risk and Safety, and Head of Midwifery, implement the risk management strategy and policy within the Maternity Division, including the effective maintenance and application of the risk register.
  • Support the development of policies and procedures relevant to the service.
  • Contribute to any external accreditation processes by ensuring the Division is compliant with standards and coordinating the compilation of relevant evidence.
  • To put systems and process in place, in partnership with the governance team to ensure that there is local and organisational learning following all types of incidents, complaints and claims, actively disseminating lessons learned throughout the Division.
