Job Purpose:
The Manual Handling/Occupational Safety Coordinator supports the development, implementation and assurance of the Hospital's occupational safety and health management system. The post holder will lead and coordinate the Hospital's manual and patient handling programme and respiratory protection and fit-testing programme, while providing practical support across wider occupational safety and health priorities.
The role will use risk assessment, training, incident learning, audit, data analysis and multidisciplinary engagement to reduce work-related injury and ill health, strengthen statutory compliance and promote safe systems of work. The post holder will work within defined professional competence and will escalate matters requiring specialist occupational hygiene, clinical, engineering or medical advice.
A central requirement of the post is a genuine commitment to high-quality learning and continual improvement in training design. The post holder will ensure that training responds to identified needs, reflects the realities of staff roles and clinical environments, develops practical competence and is evaluated for effectiveness rather than attendance alone
