Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Oncology Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, in a locum role starting in September for one year covering a sabbatical.  Imperial oncology is an expanding growing service in Northwest London with recurrent yearly growth of 10%. ICHT is the major cancer centre for an inner North West London population of approximately 2 million and is the largest recruiting centre to clinical trials in this sector. The GTD service serves a national catchment area.

This post is an fixed term post and fits into a well-established oncology team at Charing Cross Hospital.  A key focus will be to manage the patients for  Skin, Urology and GTD oncology from the supra-regional and national network. The Uro-oncology service is supported by a team of 3 medical oncologists  and 5 clinical oncologists. The GTD service is supported by 3 other medical oncologists.

The  Trust  offers  specialist  care  for  almost  all  cancers  (excluding paediatrics and sarcoma) and  is  a lead site for the National  Gestational Trophoblastic  Disease service. It is also the North West London regional Centre (ICS) for malignant spinal cord compression.

Main duties of the job

This 10PA post will:

  • Work collaboratively with the Skin, Urology and GTD oncology and surgery teams to provide care to patients of Northwest London and wider networked units
  • support the delivery and management of the medical and clinical oncology services offered to all skin, Urology and GTD oncology patients
  • Work collaboratively, offering cross cover, recruitment to and assessment of trials, active metastatic disease & complex case discussion
  • Offer support and training to all non-consultant grade doctors within the unit.
  • To work collaboratively with all members of the different MDT’s to continue to provide outstanding clinical care and experience.
  • Boost the departments research output

The research portfolio in Oncology is expanding, with development of medical and clinical academia in areas from computing to early phase trial recruitment and diagnostics.  There is an active NCRN trial portfolio.   ICHT has been awarded enhanced CRUK and BRC grants, and there has been expansion of the academic base in Medical and Clinical Oncology.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust works in partnership within the Academic Health Science Centre of Imperial College, with strong academic opportunities. We are a nationally recognised provider or clinical research in Urological and Colorectal Cancer with high recruitment to clinical trials, locally and nationally. We are also a regional trainer of undergraduates, postgraduates and oncology trainees and the role would be key to support of trainees and medical students
