Job overview

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is welcoming applications a locum position in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our expanding team. This new posts are designed to strengthen our consultant workforce, ensuring year-round antenatal clinic provision and enhanced senior clinician support for women accessing our maternity and gynaecology services.

The post is full-time, with a predominant focus on maternity care and some gynaecology responsibilities. As the directorate progresses towards separate Obstetrics and Gynaecology rotas, generalist consultants will contribute to both areas, allowing flexibility in future job planning.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic, and a forward-thinking individual who are committed to teamwork and to delivering safe, high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing consultant-led care in Obstetrics, with an element of Gynaecology practice, and participating in the consultant on-call rota at Calderdale Royal Hospital, alternating between Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post includes resident on-call duties from 18:00–22:00 on weekdays and 08:00–19:30 on weekends when on duty, as well as delivering acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology cover during “hot weeks” (Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00) up to four weeks per year.

The locum consultant will contribute to antenatal clinics, labour ward cover, and emergency and planned gynaecology services, while actively engaging in teaching, supervision, and multidisciplinary team working. The post also involves supporting service development as the directorate transitions to a split rota system, and participating in audit, governance, and service improvement initiatives. Initial support and on-the-job training will be provided where appropriate.
