This is a 6 month fixed term post (with the possibility of applying for a substantive post at the end of this period) this post compromises of 10 PAs with 7 PAs in hand/General Plastics and 3 PAs in Skin Oncology . We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and progressive Consultant to join our Plastic Surgery Team. The work involves hand and general plastic surgery and skin oncology. The appointee will cover both sites, City Hospital (dermatology), Birmingham, and Sandwell General Hospital and the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick. Applications are welcomed from candidates with FRCS (or equivalent) who are on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery or who will be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. In addition, applicants should demonstrate within their application that they are fully trained in hand, skin, and general plastic surgery. Skin or hand fellowships are desirable but not essential. There are no oncalls associated with this post.

The post will enable the successful applicant to develop sub sub-specialty surgery interests to complement the existing consultant staff, develop further towards a recognised Black Country Alliance service.
The appointee will take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the clinical service, working with clinical and managerial colleagues towards achieving and maintaining national maximum waiting times and developing clinical pathways in line with the maximum 18-week patient pathway guarantee.
The candidate will be expected to participate in the weekly skin MDT. There is also an opportunity to participate in a Hand MDT.
The University of Birmingham would like to support research by offering two protected research PAs to recently appointed (within 18 months) consultants. Sessions will be prioritised for those with a commitment to research and an interest in an area of research that maps to University of Birmingham strengths. Support will be assessed on a competitive basis.
