Applications are invited for an exceptional candidate to join the Critical Care Directorate as a Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, working 10 sessions per week, based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with some cover also provided at the nearby University Hospital Llandough.  This is a locum post available for a period of six months.

This is an exciting time to join the Health Board with reconfiguration of the Critical Care footprint and planned expansion of our services in line with growing demand.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.  The basic salary for this post is £121,264 per annum.

Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full.  In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join a team of 30 Consultants in Intensive Care who have a variety of special interests including renal medicine, trauma, research, emergency surgery, and neurosciences.

There are excellent links with Cardiff University and Health Education & Improvement Wales (HEIW).  As a teaching unit, we are driving forward a programme of medical education, international research, and innovations in intensive care.  This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join our multidisciplinary team.
