Contract: 12 months Location: RBH & OUH  Hours: 10 PAs (6PAs RBH / 4PAs OUH) On-call: 1 in 7 (non-resident Gynaecology RBH) This is a 12-month locum Consultant Gynaecological Oncology post jointly hosted byrBH and OUH. The role is designed to strengthen collaboration between the cancer unit and the tertiary centre, ensuring seamless patient care across the 62-day cancer pathway. The postholder will work across both sites, contributing to outpatient clinics with a huge focus on  surgical lists, MDTs and service development. The role is ideal for a dynamic and motivated consultant with a subspecialty interest in Gynaecological oncology and a passion for improving cancer outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and deliver high-quality care for patients on the 62-day cancer pathway, ensuring timely diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical intervention.
  • Participate in weekly clinics  sessions at Royal Berkshire Hospital.
  • Attend and contribute to the Gynaecological Cancer MDT, supporting decision-making and coordination of care across both sites.
  • Undertake elective surgical procedures, including complex oncology cases, with opportunities for joint operating and skill development.
  • Provide clinical leadership in service improvement initiatives focused on cancer pathway efficiency and surgical outcomes.
  • Participate in the non-resident on-call rota at RBH (1 in 7) and contribute to acute gynaecology cover as required.

The postholder will be responsible for delivering direct clinical care across both Royal Berkshire and Oxford sites, with a split of 6 PAs at RBH and 4 PAs at OUH. Responsibilities include:

  • Surgical lists: Elective theatre sessions with a focus on oncology procedures.
  • Weekly Outpatient clinics to support the Cancer Patwhay
  • MDT participation: Weekly cancer MDT meetings to support collaborative decision-making.
  • SPA activities: Audit, clinical governance, teaching, and revalidation.
  • Leadership: Support service transformation, particularly around cancer pathway optimisation and surgical quality improvement.
  • Education: Contribute to training of junior doctors and medical students, with opportunities for mentorship and supervision.
