Applicants are invited to apply for a Locum Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in paediatric imaging (10PAs). The post has arisen due to maternity leave. The post will be based at St Marys and Queen Charlottes Hospital. St Marys Hospital is a centre for paediatric infectious disease, paediatric haematology and oncology (Level 2). There is a large bone marrow transplant unit, a busy general paediatric department and an established PICU. There are two neonatal units across the two sites (St Mary’s hospital & Queen Charlottes Hospital) with two dedicated NICUs. St Mary’s Hospital is the paediatric trauma centre for north west London. There is a paediatric surgery service in combination with Chelsea NHS trust. The imaging department supports busy A&E departments, UCC centres and general practitioners.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in radiology and will have experience in paediatric radiology.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate’s clinical work will involve reporting paediatric plain radiographs and cross-sectional imaging, performing paediatric ultrasound and fluoroscopy and attending paediatric MDT meetings. The candidate will be fully supported by the existing paediatric radiology team.

Close collaboration with the paediatric radiology team and clinicians in the management of patients will be paramount.

The appointee will contribute to the general work in the department, including duty “hot desk” reporting and general CT reporting. There is no-call commitment with this post however the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the “hot” duty rota reporting, evening and weekend general reporting rotas.

A strong interest in teaching and training will be welcomed to support the radiology training scheme, sonographers and reporting radiographers. There will be ample opportunities for audit and research projects in line with the candidate’s interests.

The post will be mainly based at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Hammersmith.

Programmed activities (PA’s)

For a whole-time contract: A total of 10 PAs

Clinical Activities: 9 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PAs per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD)

Monday am Paediatric ultrasound Neonatal MDT pm SPA

Tuesday am Paediatric MDT/ Paediatric fluoroscopy pm Paediatric MDT/Reporting

Wednesday am Paediatric ultrasound pm General CT Reporting

Thursday am Reporting  pm Paediatric ultrasound

Friday am Reporting pm “ HOT session” 1-3 Reporting (Queen Charlottes/Hammersmith Hospital)

Regular meetings: There are various MDT and departmental/ divisional meetings which the post-holder will attend as required.

  • Leadership and team working

The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology or be on the GMC Speciality Register, or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT. Candidates who wish to work only part-time are encouraged to apply, as are applicants interested in job-sharing.
