An immediate opportunity has arisen for a Colorectal Consultant appointment, with an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Benign Colorectal Surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle. Newcastle Hospitals provides a tertiary regional IBD referral centre, with a number of dedicated IBD surgeons, providing high volume and advanced IBD surgical care. The post provides an opportunity be part of a large and innovative IBD team, with an international reputation, and establish close collaborations within our research active, multi-disciplinary, teams.

The role will have a major focus in supporting the established Newcastle IBD practice, involving primary and re-do resectional surgery, pouch formation/ excision and complex perianal pathology management. However, the team are also keen to assist development in advanced and minimally invasive approaches, and the appointee will be encouraged to develop a practice to support current colorectal, IBD, and advanced hernia surgery provision.
The successful applicant would be expected to support delivery of our broader colorectal service. There are potential mentorship and training opportunities for new consultants and considerable flexibility within the department to support the appointment of the very best candidate.

Clinical: • Provide high quality elective and emergency surgical care to Newcastle and regional population. • Further develop sub-speciality services as part of a multidisciplinary team
Administrative: • Provide timely communication to the wider team in hospital and the community • Contribute to the efficient running of elective and acute care. • Engage with national audits (NELA, NBOCAP, IMPACT etc)
Research: • Engage and collaborate with ongoing local and NIHR Portfolio research activities within the department. • Provide clinical academic leadership in supporting medical students and doctors in training deliver research projects
Teaching: • The department leads many educational programs and teaching is an important part of this role. • Opportunities to lead/further develop courses are numerous via the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre (NSTC)
