Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Locum Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery for a fixed period of six months, from April to September 2026. We are seeking a keen and dynamic consultant who will integrate effectively with the existing teams to deliver a first-class service.

Applicants must be on, or within six months of entry to, the Specialist Register (CCT) in General Surgery, or hold an equivalent qualification for overseas graduates. Evidence of high technical standards in operative practice, particularly in colorectal surgery, is essential.
A higher postgraduate research degree (MS, MD, or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
The successful candidate will join a well-established unit and will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of future services.

Clinical Commitments:
The post will have 1:4 emergency general surgery on-call daytime cover at the Royal site. In addition, successful candidate will be part of colorectal speciality on-call 1:12. There will also be out-of-hours on-call commitments 1;16 at Royal site.
Colorectal department works on three site including Royal, Aintree and day case surgery at BGH.
Weekend on-call for general surgery will be 1:14.
Professional Performance
The appointee will have continuing responsibility for the proper function of the work. It is a requirement that if the employee has concerns about the professional performance of a member of the medical staff, they have a duty to speak to the person concerned. If the matter is potentially serious, or satisfaction is not obtained with the direct approach, such concerns should be discussed with the Clinical Lead, if satisfaction is again not obtained, concerns should be discussed with the Associate Medical Director.
Applications are invited for suitably qualified individuals for a Locum Consultant Colorectal/ General Surgeon in the Division of Surgery, General Surgery care group with clinical duties in both Royal Liverpool and Aintree site. This is replacement post within the current Colorectal Unit of ten full-time Colorectal Consultant Surgeons. As well as a busy Specialist Colorectal practise there is also an Emergency General Surgery rota covering acute admissions to the RLH site, emergency support for the Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. There is also an elective General Surgery component to the practise, including Day Case Surgery, on the BGH site. The successful applicant will help meet cancer targets through the cancer pathway, and ideally have a significant interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We are tertiary referral centre for IBD and ACPGBI accredited centre in the Northwest. There is regular access to a Da Vinci Robot for colorectal operating, and a well-established Laparoscopic unit with ample kit and two very experienced surgical assistants available for support.
