Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Interventional Cardiology, based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff. This is a new post available for a period of 12 months.
The Cardiothoracic department at UHW includes 20 Cardiologists, 5 Cardiac Surgeons and 4 Thoracic Surgeons who deliver a broad range of specialist services.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £121,264 per annum.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Our 7 invasive cardiologists perform approximately 1,750 coronary interventions and 2,500 diagnostic cardiac catheterisations annually. The full range of standard and advanced coronary interventional procedures are performed. The 3 catheter labs are equipped with pressure wire, orbital and rotational atherectomy, laser, intravascular lithoplasty, OCT and intravascular ultrasound. There is active primary PCI programme with more than 500 cases performed per annum. We have a high-volume complex PCI service and have recently established a protected high-risk PCI program including impella.
The structural interventional programme is provided by Prof Richard Anderson, Dr Vasim Farooq, Dr Omar Aldalati, Dr Mardi Hamra and Dr Amr Abdelrahman. There are weekly TAVI lists and a monthly Mitral TEER and PFO closure list, with numerous ad hoc TAVI lists interspersed between.
We have an active research programme both clinical and database-driven, with numerous high-quality peer reviewed publications in all the highest impact journals and there will be opportunities for interested candidates to participate in relevant research.
