This post is based at the Riverside centre which is located in Prestwich. The postholder will work collaboratively with a full clinical team, including a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, a forensic social worker / approved mental health professional, an occupational therapist, and a medical secretary. The postholder will be expected to take part in educational, leadership, and research opportunities where available, including clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
There is access to an on-site physical health team, and visiting General Practitioner for physical health concerns, it is expected that the postholder will have an oversight of patient’s physical health needs however, and support this where required.
You will likely be assigned to work on a specific ward(s) with a case load ranging from 12-16 under one or two different consultants, with opportunity to rotate through and work within different areas of the service on a six-monthly basis.

Patients are detained on a combination of civil and forensic sections of the Mental Health Act and present with behaviour presenting a serious or significant risk of harm to others. They are on a variety of care pathways including those escalating up and down levels of security, and those transferred from prison either for periods of assessment or to pursue a hospital pathway.
This post is ideally suited for psychiatrists developing their capabilities in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with mental disorders.
Subject to competency assessments, you will observe and lead regular patient reviews (including the management of seclusions where necessary), clinical team meetings, and care programme approach reviews; manage patient’s pathway progression; provide written and oral evidence at Hospital Manager’s Hearings and First-Tier Mental Health Tribunals; complete Mental Health Act and Ministry of Justice forms; and complete access assessments to the service.
