Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Physiotherapist to join the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The Living With and Beyond Cancer Service Lead Physiotherapist is responsible for leading and delivering an expert level of clinical practice within the field of Living With and Beyond Cancer, particularly the promotion of exercise and  physical activity, and embedding the principles of supported self-management.

The post holder will use expert clinical reasoning and knowledge in their specialist field to further develop clinical skills and support other Therapy colleagues, evaluate clinical practice and implement change to ensure a high quality, evidence based service. The clinical scope of this role is across tumour groups from prehabilitation to rehabilitation. The post holder also oversees the implementation of the Physical Activity Strategy for the Trust. You will carry a clinical caseload and provide operational management for physiotherapy outpatients on both sites.  You will be supported by senior colleagues, with regular supervision and in-service training.

  • Practice as a lead specialist resource for supported self-management, exercise promotion, healthy eating from the point of diagnosis, prehabilitation through to  living with and beyond cancer.
  • Draw on specialist expertise in cancer / long term conditions to apply these skills to the management of oncology patients in line with the national guidelines.
  • Undertake a specialist Physiotherapy case load prioritising and assessing patients with complex problems
  • Work collaboratively across therapies to identify scope and implement service improvement opportunities. With the Associate Lead and Professional Leads for Dietetics and Physiotherapy identification, development and implementation of strategic therapeutic opportunities in relation to living with and beyond cancer; focussing on exercise delivery within this field, incorporating evidence based practice and the evaluation of services.
