Orthopaedic department is based in two hospitals, Hull Royal Infirmary where acute services are based and Castle Hill Hospital. Hull University teaching hospitals and Orthopaedic department has 26 consultants and is major trauma centre. Hull is a tertiary referral centre for trauma and specialist services including limb reconstruction and bone infections. Limb Reconstruction (LR) and bone infection unit has 3 consultants, 2 clinical fellows, 2 research fellows, 1 academic lecturer and 1 specialist nurse and physiotherapist. Bone infection unit consist of 2 orthopaedic surgeons, 3 plastic surgeons, 1 radiologist and Infectious diseases consultant. LR and Bone infection unit is a referral centre for entire EAST Yorkshire, and also treats some patients from Mid Yorkshire and accepts referrals from across the country.
Main duties of the job
- LR fellow will attend elective and trauma theatres, clinics, bone infection MDT and clinics and day to day care of LR and bone infection patients across the entire unit. LR fellow will liaison across the specialities to provide optimum care to LR and bone infection patients. LR fellow will undertake research / join in ongoing research. Audit and research would be integral part of the job. LR fellow would be responsible for all LR and bone infection patients. LR fellow may in certain situations may provide support for the other patients in department. LR fellow would be part of decision making team and would be trained / supported for independentdecision making. Educational Objectives of the posts oTo develop / build upon the experience of management of LR with circular frames especiallyhexapods, lengthening nails, and bone infection patients. oTo build upon experience of team working oTo gain experience and familiarity in dealing with a wide variety LR and bone infectiontechniques. oTo build upon the surgical skills in management of LR and bone infection conditions. oTo build upon research and audit experience. oTo develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities
