A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire Healthcare for a Fixed Term Fixed Term Contract for 12 months as an LED Core Trainee Doctor in Plastic Surgery available from 5th August 2026 until 03 August 2027 This post is to support the Plastic Surgery & Burns Department in delivering the best clinical care for our patients at a CT equivalent level.  This post includes providing on-call provisions.  Candidates must have a full GMC registration with 'Licence to Practice in the UK'.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be part of the Plastic Surgery & Burns Service Delivery Unit.  There is a good deal of flexibility and excellent working relationships across our teams.

An example of a typical rota is shown; this would vary depending upon consultant attachment or clinical/service need.

Also audit meetings every month where specialist trainees will take turns to present complications and special audit topics.

Shift pattern.

The core trainees are placed on a rolling 8-week shift pattern of on calls (resident 12 hour shifts).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a fixed term post for 12 months starting and ending from the dates shown above for a Core Trainee Doctor post at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

Oversee routine ward work by the foundation doctors. Assessment of emergency admissions; discussed with the on-call registrar or consultant. Assisting and operating in theatre.  (Local anaesthetics and general anaesthetic lists). Emergency and elective out-patient clinics. Teaching – Tuesday a.m. dedicated teaching time with juniors and consultants being actively involved.  Teaching presentations on various topics of importance in plastic surgery, and discussions of the latest scientific research covering all aspects of plastic surgery.  There is a monthly hospital audit. Monthly Morbidity and Mortality meeting.

There are teaching ward rounds. There are excellent postgraduate facilities at the hospital with a first-class library.  In addition, the plastic surgery unit has its own library. The specialist trainees can attend British Association of Plastic Surgeon meetings, advanced courses and Regional meetings
