We are looking for someone with a passion for OD to role model our organisational values, to provide support and leadership in the development and implementation of the OD elements of our People Plan.
This role is varied and interesting. The successful candidate will lead on the Health Board’s core learning and OD provision including Organisational Induction, Statutory & Mandatory training, along with other related OD projects.
You will be joining a talented team, whose focus is on the delivery of excellent services to employees, visitors and service users of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Professional Leadership/Management
- Ensure delivery of a programme of Learning and OD solutions in a planned and methodical way
- Liaise with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead to ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles are embedded in all Learning and OD interventions and robust equality impact assessments are undertaken.
- Lead, develop and empower direct reports in line with the ‘all Wales Compassionate Principles’ and Organisational Values to facilitate a culture of growth and innovation delivering high quality outcomes
- Work in collaboration with key stakeholders locally and nationally to maximise the Learning and OD opportunities eg Organisational Induction and Statutory and Mandatory Training and work experience
- Lead on the design, development, delivery and implementation of Learning and OD initiatives to meet the needs of the service and service users (eg Organisational Induction, StaM provision, work experience).
- Contribute to the responsiveness of Learning and OD in relation to organisational strategic and operational plans.
- Represent ABUHB as appropriate at conference /meeting etc. as required
Learning and OD
- Work closely with the OD Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support the development of strategic planning in relation to Learning and OD development.
- Share knowledge/skills and expertise with peers and implement any service improvement aligned to increased knowledge acquisition.
- Work collaboratively with Senior Organisation Development Practitioners to ensure Learning and OD activity is intuitive and responsive to Organisational and national strategy.
- Work collaboratively with clinical / non clinical leads and divisional education practitioners to support the Learning and OD agenda.
- Review ways of working including managing bookings, learning content and collateral etc ensuring they are delivered and accessible in a digital way
- Manage and maintain internal quality assurance processes.
- Exercise specialist knowledge across a range of professional and managerial work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
- Interpret data for various purposes to feed into service, delivery and strategy for example effective use of learning and OD data in line with requirements of the people plan.
- Plan and prioritise own work, to ensure effective support to all areas and delivery of key objectives, monitoring, evaluating and adjusting accordingly.
- Work with OD coordinator and OD officer roles to ensure effective service provision
- Lead and manage our organisational statutory and mandatory (StaM) learning and Organisational Induction and work experience offer
- Plans the implementation of complex learning strategies and educational interventions across the organisation e.g. statutory and mandatory training and induction formulating and adjusting plans to meet service needs.
Communication
- Using and understanding complex information, multi-factorial strands of communication both inside and external to the organisation. This will involve being able to use a variety of communication styles, to overcome communication barriers and achieve effective delivery, for example qualitative data resulting from evaluations and questionnaires.
- Design and present specialist training courses on complex issues eg Oracle learning Management system, Corporate Induction, Statutory and Mandatory Training to groups of around 20- 25 people details making recommendations for improvement
- Foster positive, collegial relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team and multi-agency partners. e.g. meetings, conferences and careers events
- Provide leadership and direction across situations where complex ideas or concepts need to be conveyed and implemented across the organisation in easily understood language for example, supporting individuals and managers with easily accessible information e.g. Accessible Induction resources, accessible mandatory and statutory training information.
- Develop close working relationships with the trade unions and professional bodies to facilitate good partnership working to enable the new organisation to modernise the workforce and meet business objectives. The post holder will provide support and guidance sessions to individuals and teams where a need for staff development has been identified. This will require highly developed motivational, negotiating, coaching or facilitation skills.
Analytical
- The post holder will analyse and interpret data some of which will be complex in nature such as training need analysis and pertinent surveys. Utilising judgement and critical thinking skills to make comparisons to inform the delivery of appropriate outcomes assess and recommend course of action on complex learning and OD issue
Exercise specialist knowledge across a range of professional and managerial work procedures and practices e.g. knowledge of digital marketing resources, statutory and mandatory training and corporate induction.
