Job overview

The Lead Pharmacy Technician – Digital Medicines & EPMA will play a vital role in delivering and optimising digital medicines systems across the Trust. Working closely with the Principal Pharmacist, the post holder will lead on the technical development, implementation and support of EPMA and other pharmacy digital systems to improve medicines safety, efficiency and patient care.

The role involves leading digital workflows within pharmacy, supporting system builds and optimisation, developing training and governance documentation, and working collaboratively with clinical teams, IT and external suppliers. The post holder will also line manage staff within the digital pharmacy team and maintain core pharmacy technician competencies to support operational service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery and ongoing development of digital medicines systems, including EPMA, in line with the Trust’s digital medicines strategy.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for EPMA and pharmacy-related clinical informatics systems (e.g. Sunrise, Chemocare, WellSky, ICCA), supporting system configuration, builds, workflow design, testing and optimisation.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of governance documentation, including BCP, SOPs, QRGs, audit processes and system validations, to ensure safe and effective use of digital medicines systems.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy staff, clinical teams, Trust Digital/IT services and external suppliers to support system performance, medicines safety and service improvement.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, support and line management for staff within the digital pharmacy team, contributing to workforce development and service delivery.
  • Deliver and support training for pharmacy and clinical staff in the safe and effective use of digital medicines systems.
  • Maintain core pharmacy technician competencies and provide cross-cover to support operational pharmacy services, as required.
