Job overview

To act as clinical expert in maternity ultrasound service at King’s College Hospital.  Taking an active role in teaching and leading the team. To take responsibility and manage the provision of high-quality ultrasound service and patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

To proactively and positively contribute to the successful performance of the trust aligning to the national screening programme including Down ’s syndrome screening quality assurance support service (DQASS).

As the lead specialist for the Maternity ultrasound service, you will ensure there is adequate service provision in place at all times and plan the ultrasound service to meet the demands of the maternity department. The post holder will be an experienced sonographer who is accessible and responsive as a leader.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have experience in patient, staff, service and resource responsibility. As the lead sonographer you will ensure the maternity ultrasound team provide an efficient and high quality ultrasound imaging service, whilst caring for patients in a professional manner. Within this role you will undertake a lead role in education, training, governance, policy review and development.  You will be able to make informed decisions within your own area and scope of professional practice and will support the other midwifery sonographers in the provision of a professional ultrasound service. You will be involved in the clinical training of ultrasound trainees and junior doctors or medical students. You may also be expected to supervise newly qualified members of staff. You will also be expected to maintain your CPD and take part in other developmental activities as required.
