We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Immunotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist at University Hospitals Plymouth. Working alongside all teams, you will undertake direct specialist advice and clinical care and provide training and development.
Must have demonstrable experience at a senior level working with oncology patients. Need to be familiar with all Immunotherapy and the treatment of toxicities
The post holder must be willing to undertake nurse led clinics for monitoring and follow up of patients on treatment, take part in clinical audit and research and provide education and training. The post holder should be willing and will be supported to undertake non-medical prescribing and other appropriate level 7 modules to reach their potential, as need be.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
- Lead, manage and develop the Immunotherapy nursing service working alongside the Consultant Oncologists, doctors, AHP’s and other CNS teams.
- To provide a specialist nursing service for patients experiencing side effects from immunotherapy
- Undertake nurse-led clinics including non-medical prescribing if appropriate
- Work as part of the AOS weekly
- To act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train.
- Undertake audit and evaluation and develop policies and procedures as required
To work as an integrated member of the wider cancer nurse specialist team.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Works autonomously in accordance with NMC guidelines, to manage his/her caseload of patients.
- Develop and undertake nurse led clinics and prescribing (if qualified) with support of consultants and l
lead nurse.
- Act as key worker for cancer patients and undertake holistic needs assessment in line with national and local guidance
- Communicates highly sensitive and emotive condition related information to patients, relatives’ e.g. terminal illness, bereavement etc. Participates in complex ethical decision- making process
- To act as the patients advocate on a frequent basis and provide expert advice on treatment options to enable patients to make informed choices
- Provides continuity of care throughout the patients journey and liaises across organisations
- Develops specialised programmes of care and provides highly specialised advice and written and oral information to patients, relatives
- To act as a key communication resource for the multidisciplinary team
- Provides clinical advice and support to healthcare professionals within and across organisational boundaries
- To act as a role model for excellence
- Provides support for distressed patients/carers and bereaved relatives. Identifies patients at risk and refers to appropriate agencies
- Reviews patients independently and initiates changes in the management of care
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all relevant information is documented in the patients notes
- Promote and participate in support groups and other patient and public involvement initiatives to inform service development
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and agencies involved in the discharge process to ensure patients are transferred into primary care in a timely and appropriate manner
- Admit patients using own clinical judgement and convey relevant information to other members of the specialist team
- Act as a change agent using own specialist knowledge of products and resources
- Develop pathways and protocols to improve care for patients including follow up and recovery package
