Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced clinical pharmacist to join the esteemed and experienced surgical team at ESNEFT. This is new and exciting position for a committed and self-motivated pharmacist to lead our Pharmacy services to specialist surgical patients on the Ipswich Hospital site.

This post is Band 8a role however we will consider Band 7 pharmacists in a Band 7 developmental program opportunity.

You will be pivotal in developing our clinical service within the surgical speciality which includes dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT and rheumatology. You will be a fully established member of the multi-disciplinary team within surgery, with an opportunity to play a key role to the pharmacy service within the homecare team to specialist surgical patients and rheumatology. You will have responsibility to support the provision of the pharmacy parenteral nutrition services including the opportunity to be a part of the multidisciplinary nutrition team.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full Trust wide implementation of the Epic electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

Main duties of the job

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and a brand new aseptic facility.

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure medicines optimisation strategies are embedded as part of the surgery practice; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.
  • Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to specialist surgical patients in line with the pharmacy Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and agreed clinical standards.
  • Provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within surgery.
  • Develop clinical pharmacy input into Surgical Services and provide departmental leadership into this speciality.
  • Be a specialist clinical pharmacist in the provision of parenteral nutrition services, in accordance with local and national standards and strategy.
  • Work closely with the principal and divisional pharmacist for high cost drugs to take a prominent role in homecare services at the Ipswich site for rheumatology and specialist surgical patient
