Main duties of the job

The role is based within the Laundry Department at Tameside General Hospital, providing a reliable and uninterrupted laundry service to support hospital operations. The position involves working an average of 17 hours per week on a four‑week rota system, which includes two Saturdays and two Sundays within each rota cycle. Bank holiday working is also included.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that hospital linen is processed efficiently and hygienically to meet required standards, contributing to the smooth day to day running of the hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will work as part of the laundry team and, when required, undertake lone working, using their own initiative to support the effective operation of the Laundry Department.

Laundry Operations

  • Sort and process soiled linen in accordance with infection control and health and safety guidelines.
  • Wash, dry, sort and pack patient clothing, staff uniforms, staff linen and items belonging to external contractors.
  • Laundry, count and bag domestic mops and cloths in a timely manner to meet collection and delivery schedules.
  • Operate industrial washing and drying equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out quality checks on clean linen to ensure required standards are met.
  • Keep laundry areas clean and tidy at all times in line with trust cleaning standards.
  • Check, count, sort and pack deliveries received from external laundry contractors.
  • Record daily linen issues to wards and departments accurately.
  • Undertake ward and departmental stock checks and adjust delivery quantities as required.
  • Document quantities of linen, mops and cloths processed.
