Job overview

The post holder will work under the direct supervision of one clinical academic and KNL’s education lead (Ahilan Kailaya-Vasan). The post includes opportunities to study towards higher degrees and would suit individuals interested in pursuing an academic or a clinical career with an academic interest.

This is a 12-month fixed term clinical academic post. The post holder will work as a Trust grade SHO and will include clinical and research duties, including 2 months of dedicated research time. Clinical duties will include inpatient care and out-of-hours on call duties. The post holder will gain experience in applied translational research and will work closely with clinical research coordinators, research clinicians, scientists and engineers. Academic responsibilities include primary benchside research, running clinical trials, applying for research grants and completing a relevant systematic review. The post holder must complete Good Clinical Practice training prior to commencing the post.

Main duties of the job

The appointees will offer 24h cover over Neuro HDU (Kinnier Wilson) and Neurosurgery (Murray Falconer). There is continuous support by the neurointensive care consultants throughout the working week and by the neuroanaesthetists during the weekends. Two formal ward rounds are performed daily. The appointees will also be expected to assist in the Anaesthetic Preassessment Clinic of the neurosurgical department, which runs daily.
