Keats Ward is home to the hospital’s Acute Stroke Unit, caring for patients who have been newly diagnosed with a stroke. Patients are supported in their recovery by a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff. Rehabilitation activities may also take place in the ward’s dedicated gym.
Volunteers work closely with the Occupational Therapy team to support patients with individual rehabilitation exercises. They also provide support during mealtimes, offering companionship and gentle encouragement to help create a positive and supportive dining environment. Through both engagement and mealtime support, volunteers play an important role in enhancing patients’ overall experience in hospital.
