The role supports the delivery and follow-up of a comprehensive, nurse-led outpatient service for post-operative orthopaedic patients. This service is holistic, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient. The post-holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care, efficient service delivery, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be responsible for the follow up of patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery, managing slots and appointments as required ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.
- The post holder requires the ability to work autonomously whilst being supported within a well-established multi-disciplinary nursing team.
- The role requires managing nurse led clinics, implementing post-operative care instructions from consultants and providing evidence-based advice to patients.
- The post holder will see orthopaedic patients in clinic and will manage a caseload of patients who have metal-on-metal hip arthroplasty.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Organise and manage a caseload of patients who have undergone
- Orthopaedic surgery, including metal-on-metal and SSIS.
- Co-ordinate investigations, treatments for patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery in accordance with established post-operative plans protocols and procedure.
- Act as a specialist resource, communicating with patients, and their family, assessing their needs and providing relevant support, information, education, advice and counselling when necessary.
- Participate in and lead quality initiatives to promote and ensure that nursing care is evidence and research based.

- Develop new skills in response to clinical needs of the patients, emerging knowledge, experience and techniques.
- Request necessary investigations such as x-rays, bloods, following them up and discussing with the consultants.
