Job overview

The Undergraduate Medical Education Department at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Oxford Road and North Manchester campuses) is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic and innovative doctors to join our Clinical Education Team as Clinical Teaching Fellows from August.

Manchester Medical School is one of the largest medical schools in the UK and plays a key role in training future doctors. High-quality clinical teaching is central to this, and the Undergraduate Medical Education Department at Manchester Foundation Trust has a strong reputation for delivering engaging and innovative education. Our multidisciplinary team includes administrators, student support staff, academics, clinical skills tutors, clinical teaching fellows and clinical educators, working together to provide an excellent learning experience.

As a Clinical Teaching Fellow, you will use your NHS clinical experience to help educate the next generation of doctors while receiving structured support to develop as an educator.

Essential criteria: • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise • Completion of the Foundation Programme by the start of the post • At least two years’ NHS experience as a doctor • A commitment to medical education and student support

Candidates who do not meet these criteria will not be shortlisted.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop teaching skills, gain formal experience in medical education, and contribute to training future NHS clinicians.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in delivering and enhancing the undergraduate medical curriculum for Years 3–5, as well as supporting students in their transition to the Foundation Programme.

  • Clinical teaching (including bedside teaching, history-taking, and consultation skills).
  • Curriculum development and educational innovation.
  • Medical education research is encouraged.
  • Simulation-based training, working alongside the Head of Clinical Skills to develop and deliver comprehensive simulation programmes.
  • Facilitating case-based discussions, communication workshops, and clinical examination & procedural skill.

You will also be encouraged to collaborate with other Clinical Teaching Fellows within the Trust and across the Northwest to develop new and innovative approaches to medical education
