Job overview

This post is designed to provide clinical experience in Acute Medicine with a focus on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The Junior Clinical Fellow will contribute to the safe and efficient assessment, investigation, and management of acutely unwell patients suitable for ambulatory pathways, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve patient flow and reduce unnecessary admissions.

The role also offers opportunities for professional development, teaching, quality improvement, and research in line with the Trust’s strategic priorities.

The unit is staffed by a dedicated SDEC Consultant, supported by a Physician Associate (PA), Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), and an experienced nursing and administrative team.

Medical SDEC plays a key role in supporting the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), and acute inpatient services, helping reduce unnecessary admissions and improve patient flow across the Trust.

The service operates 7 days a week (08:00–20:00 weekdays, 08:00–16:00 weekends). This role will not involve overnight or weekend on-calls. Shift patterns range from 08:00 – 16:00 and 10:00 – 18:00.
