The appointment is to commence 5th August 2026 for a fixed term period of 6 months, extendable to 2 years contingent upon mutual agreement between the Trust and the candidate. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to CT1/CT2 Level.
The successful candidate will join a department of nine specialist spinal Consultants, a senior clinical fellow, resident doctors (StR, GPVTS and Foundation doctors) and supported clinical nurse specialist. The clinical work will involve a wide range of spinal conditions including deformity, lumbar and cervical degenerative conditions, trauma, infection and tumour. Opportunities will be available to gain experience in the management of spinal injuries at the Princess Margaret Spinal Injuries Unit, which is sited on the Northern General Hospital campus.
The post holder will provide support for the spinal surgery service. Opportunity to participate in the general orthopaedic rota at Foundation/Core trainee level will be by mutual agreement.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist the resident doctors , when necessary, in the daily management of spinal inpatients but There will be ample opportunity to assist in theatre, attend outpatients and engage in research projects.
