The Department is fully committed to women’s choice and autonomy, and midwifery management of normal pregnancy. There is currently a particularly skilled group of midwifery managers leading the process of change in midwifery practice. The obstetric practice is, however, generally high risk due to the nature of the local population, requiring significant medical involvement in a substantial proportion of pregnancies.

The Gynaecological services are very busy and well supported across the trust. All the major operating is conducted in Lewisham Hospital site while Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich mainly functions as Day case surgery. All theatres are well equipped with minimal access operating systems in newly refurbished operating theatres. The Gynaecological services has well established minimal access surgical team across the trust providing expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgeries
