This is an exciting opportunity to work at post-foundation level within a large and vibrant Emergency Unit with major trauma centre status - perfect for those considering a future career in an acute specialty such as emergency medicine.
The post is aimed at providing a solid grounding in Emergency Medicine in a Major Trauma Centre whilst providing further experience in Minor injuries. The job is designed to be an enjoyable, CV-enhancing post which will attract high calibre candidates.
Opportunities would be available to work within the Minor injury unit on service development and development of guidelines for the minor injuries unit. There will be opportunities to work closely with consultants in Emergency Medicine, ENPs and colleagues from other specialities within relevant specialities.
There will be an opportunity to become involved in the minor injury unit educational programme which will include OSCEs, online learning and face to face, as well as all wales teaching days. Plenty of opportunity to develop own knowledge and clinical skills including reduction procedures.
This 12 month post will be split 80:20 between clinical duties and minor injuries work.
The rotation is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
The post holders would work at junior doctor level in the Emergency Unit. We would support the individual to develop skills and competencies across the breadth of Emergency Medicine, including but not limited to ultrasound, observational medicine, pre-hospital, paediatrics, frailty. The clinical work in the Emergency Unit is well supported by middle grades and consultants throughout the 24/7 period. This is an opportunity to further develop and embed clinical skills and experience in emergency medicine.
To further support the career development of the post holder the post is split into 80% clinical work and 20% professional development. We are able to offer development opportunities in clinical leadership, innovation, quality improvement and research and could support a post graduate certificate or diploma in medical education or other related fields. It is anticipated that the post holder will contribute to teaching undergraduates in the Emergency Unit and at Cardiff University throughout the academic year.
