Job overview

This 6-month fixed term post has been created to provide additional cover of the Hospital@Home service on a midterm basis. The post will mirror UK junior doctor training. The successful candidate would be provided with an opportunity to work in Hospital@Home. Clinical supervision will be provided across the 6 months, with regular meetings to monitor achievement of PDP.

The clinical fellowship program at UHCW Hospital@Home is an opportunity designed to provide additional middle grade cover within the Hospital@Home service that will not involve on call or weekend cover. This provides opportunity for junior clinical fellow post an exposure through a range of medical specialties with clinical supervision equivalent to that provided as part of a training program. Successful applicants will be involved in management of patient care across different medical specialties with predominant workload with Internal General Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • Take ongoing responsibility for patients under his/her care.
  • The appointees will be required to work with Advanced Clinical Practitioners and consultants across Hospital@Home service as well as medical specialities within University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
  • Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
  • Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit – this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
  • Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust’s Performance and Annual Review system.
  • Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.
  • Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures Management

Administrative

  • Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of clinical areas.
  • Comply with Health and safety policies and procedures of Clinical Audit and Governance
  • The post holder will have an objective team approach to and participation in the specialties efforts to monitor and improve standards and critical incident whilst actively supporting evidence-based guideline implementation.

Teaching

  • The post holder will be required to participate in the education and training of medical
  • students, trainee doctors, paramedical, nursing and other appropriate staff. Providing
  • honest and constructive feedback in a supportive learning environment, teaching by
  • example and encourage trainees to be curious.

The group is currently trialling a new Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) model following a collaborative event with internal and external stakeholders. This pilot aims to explore team structures and assess the impact on patient experience. While no formal redesign has taken place yet, the outcomes of this trial may inform future service delivery and team configuration across the group.
