Job overview

Are you looking for a role within interventional radiology that is fast paced and challenging with a wide variety of procedures performed? Do you enjoy working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team? Do you strive to provide patients with the best possible experience of care and professionalism?

If this is you we are seeking a radiographer to join our growing team of IR radiographers working across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. No previous experience of Interventional Radiology is needed as full training will be provided, but we are keen to recruit Radiographers who can demonstrate a passion for Interventional Radiology.

There are many reasons why MFT is a fantastic place to work as an IR radiographer:

One of the country’s largest Trusts with a single vascular hub covering a population of 1.8m.

Specialist centre for endovascular, renal and hepato-biliary services.

Wide range of specialist procedures including endovascular aortic repair, embolisation, urological and gastro-intestinal interventions.

Excellent reputation for research, education and innovation.

Excellent career progression opportunities with several B7 radiographers undertaking Advanced Practice with IR.

Applicants must possess a degree or a diploma in Diagnostic Radiography; have worked (or trained) within the NHS; be HCPC registered.  In exeptional cases, link-grading from B5-B6 may be considered for applicants with less than two years experience.

Recently rejected applicants need not apply.

Main duties of the job

The posts are cross site, involving work at the Wythenshawe and Oxford Road sites (including Royal Manchester Children's Hospital). Across the sites we have five interventional rooms, used for a mixture of vascular, non-vascular and paediatric intervention, as well as three hybrid theatres that are used for vascular intervention and endovascular surgery.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high quality imaging and exceptional patient care during complex Interventional Radiology procedures. Working with highly sophisticated, specialised equipment you will be responsible for patient and equipment positioning, acquisition, manipulation and archiving of images. The procedures also involve the use of a wide range of expensive, sterile consumables and a detailed knowledge of these is required. The radiographer must be able to respond rapidly to any request for equipment and advise radiology trainees and consultants of alternative equipment if necessary.

Many interventional procedures result in a high radiation dose and minimising radiation to the patient, operator and other staff present during the procedure is a critical responsibility of the post.

There will be opportunities to be involved with research and to lead audit projects that result in service improvement.

The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the 24/7 out of hours, non- residential on-call service and must be prepared to work flexible shifts.
