An opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE secondment to join the  Clinical Interventions Team to cover maternity leave. The Clinical Interventions Team is a specialised nurse led service performing vascular access procedures as required. Patients commonly require  some type of vascular access device when receiving treatments for cancer, and many patients develop difficulties for placing standard short term devices or for blood sampling. In addition to placing deep access cannulae, PICC lines, Midlines and peripheral Portacaths are required for long term access.  Other patients are referred to the team for complex line removals at the end of treatments. As a nurse led service we remain passionate about developing future skills particularly with the vision of supporting all patients.

Main duties of the job

To enable the insertion of long term device specialist equipment is utilised on a daily basis. As the main focus is centered on PICC  and Portacath insertions;  ultrasound is  also used for venepuncture and cannulations. Removals of skin tunnelled catheters and implanted chest devices  is a frequent request. As vascular access experts education and teaching plays a large role for supporting staff and other departments internally and externally.

Full training will be provided for all candidates. Knowledge of chemotherapy for either oncology or haematology is not required but would be an advantage for this position.
