Are you a children’s nurse who really wants to make a difference? Are you seeking a role that is rewarding, autonomous and makes a real impact on families affected by a infectious disorders and diseases? Then look no further.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic children’s nurse with experience of working with children, young people and families living with acute or chronic diseases to take up the post of Band 7 Clinical nurse Specialist in infectious diseases. Experience of working across acute/community care would be beneficial but not essential. It is not anticipated that the successful candidate will have knowledge or experience of ID and full educational and developmental opportunities will be given within the role.

If you join our team of specialist nurses you will be working as part of a small established multi-disciplinary team. There will be exciting opportunities to participate in pioneering research, audit and to attend relevant conferences. The post will also provide opportunities to develop your communication, teaching and liaison skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working as part of the Infectious Diseases (ID) Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) team and will provide cross cover to the ID Clinical Nurse Specialists. The post holder will be required to work across all aspects of the ID subspecialties mainly consisting of Hepatitis, TB, HIV, Congenital CMV infections, patients with Kawasaki’s disease as well as children presenting with Covid-19 and PIMS-TS. There will be the opportunity to be involved in research, audit and project work. This post will provide support to the ID in-patients and outpatient’s service.

  • To provide continuity for patients and advocating for them to promote access to treatment and proactive management of problems that arise
  • To co-o-ordinate the care for children at GOSH for out patient appointments and ward admissions
  • To provide information and education to local healthcare staff including Community Paediatric Nurses, Health Visitors, GP’s Social Workers and Genetic Counsellors
  • To help train nurses and other healthcare professionals in a local setting so that they may help families with day-to-day management
  • To provide information and being a point of contact for nurseries, schools and colleges and offering visits to give advice on care and management of infectious diseases
