Job overview

An exciting opportunity is available to join our experienced  Infection Prevention & Control Team at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.  This is a cross site post and you will be required to  work  facilitating the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within the Trust and across community settings within the borough of Doncaster.

The successful candidate will be expected to have  a willingness to learn, an ability to be visible in clinical areas.  This is not an office based job, although there are times where office work is required.  They must have the ability work autonomously in monitoring standards of practice.  If you self-motivated with a kind and compassionate approach then this post is for you.

The role will include promoting good infection control standards, audits and feedback of results.

Main duties of the job

The role is to participate in,  implement, provide and monitor practice to prevent and control infection, undertaking a range of support activities with clinical staff across the Trust and in community services.  This will include facilitation of mask fit testing for staff when required.  Provide support on donning and doffing of PPE and monitoring hand hygiene compliance.  In addition the post holder will be expected to communicate effectively to patients in conducting Surgical site infection surveillance.

A vital part of the role will involve visits to clinical areas supported by the infection prevention and control team.  The role is to promote infection prevention activities and undertake a range of observations and checks in the clinical area.  This includes promoting infection control practices in relation to PPE and hand hygiene compliance and appropriately addressing areas of non compliance.  The post holder will also undertake other activities, as required, to support in reducing and preventing infection.  This requires clear and effective communication with members of staff, patients, relatives and visitors and to obtain, and the ability to organise and record information clearly and accurately.
