Job overview

We are seeking an ICU Technician Assistant to join the ICU Technician team. The successful applicant will provide technical support to the Intensive Care Unit.

The ICU Technician Assistant role is a development post and it is envisaged the successful candidate will be appointed at AFC band 4 and progress through our internal training programme to become a band 5 Technician following a competency based assessment.

The ICU Technician Assistant is required to assist and support the ICU multi-disciplinary team by carrying our assigned tasks such as stock management, receiving and storage of deliveries and ensuring that medical devices are serviced, repaired and maintained to a high standard. Teamwork is essential, so it would be expected the post holder would receive guidance and supervision from the Chief Technician and Technician teams who understand the equipment used and provide guidance and support.

The post holder will be working in a busy clinical environment and will be expected to cope with the pressures of a fast paced acute setting. The post holder will be required to undertake a range of shifts which will include weekends. Informal visits are encouraged as the role differs in ICU to other areas.

Main duties of the job

  • Electronic stock management system administration of clinical           consumables.
  • Ensure stock levels are maintained.
  • Ensure consumables within date and are safe to use.
  • Maintain and ensures the safe use of complex high risk medical        equipment used in patient areas.
  • Prepare and clean medical equipment to be used on patients.
  • Support medical and nursing staff prepare equipment  for use.
  • Trouble shoot equipment problems.
  • Ensure daily checking of ICU equipment.
  • Under supervision, undertake routine maintenance of all Intensive Care equipment with clinical engineering and outside agencies.
  • Records service histories.
  • Assist with the evaluation of equipment for purchase and development and tender specifications and trials.
  • Ensure resuscitation equipment available for use in the whole trust.
  • Plan routine working rotas and equipment service schedules.

This role is subject to experience. It is envisaged the post holder will come in as a band 4 and be developed until such time they reach the competencies required to become a band 5 member of the team. If the post holder already has suitable experience it may be offered at the higher band. Both job descriptions are attached
