Walsall Integrated Community Equipment Services provide equipment and minor adaptations to patient’s home addresses or hospital sites within the borough of Walsall.  This equipment is provided, on free loan, to facilitate discharge or assist the patient to continue to live independently at home.

ICES are looking to recruit a driver fitter to work as a member of the team, to provide high quality home or hospital delivery/fitting/collection service.

Applicants should have delivery experience and the ability to work as a team member whilst being flexible in their approach.  Previous multi drop experience, the ability to route plan, prioritise own workload and maintain confidentiality in all areas of your work is essential.    PLEASE NOTE, WE MAY CLOSE THIS VACANCY EARLY IF WE RECEIVE HIGH NUMBERS OF APPLICATIONS.

Main duties of the job

Load and unload service vehicles, deliver, assemble, fit and collect equipment to/from NHS premises and client’s homes, install and demonstrate equipment in client’s homes, daily route plan to ensure efficient use of vehicle, pick equipment from stores, assemble, adjust and load onto the allotted vehicle, liaise with client’s, carers and prescribers,  ensure that vehicles are cleaned weekly, complete daily/weekly vehicle checks, maintain communications with base throughout the day, complete paperwork and use handheld scanner. Observe all fire, security,health and safety procedures in accordance with Trust policy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • -       The assembly, adjusting, delivery, fitting and collection of items in the community to the specifications set by clinicians with adherence to manufacturers’ guidelines -       Responsible for the quality control of equipment, ensuring they are fit for purpose at point of picking, loading and delivery -       Using personal protective equipment (PPE) achieve total segregation of soiled and clean equipment and ensure that staff handling of equipment does not cross contaminate clean equipment -       Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times when in the warehouse or out on deliveries. When in the warehouse, uniform, safety shoes must be worn and a high visual vest, must be worn. When out delivering, uniform, safety shoes and a high visual vest (doesn’t have to be worn when driving but must be worn when exiting the vehicle on public roads) and gloves worn when collecting equipment and unloading at ICES stores. -       Risk of frequent contact with bodily fluids, hazardous residential environments, contact with infectious service users -       Communication between relevant teams to ensure the smooth and effective running of the service for clients. Communicating with patients and carers. Some patients may have barriers to understanding -       Ensuring a safe and clean work environment. Including but not limited to, the safe transportation and storage of equipment, cleanliness of vehicles (internal and external), and general good housekeeping -       To be responsible for the equipment used in carrying out duties, adhere to Trust and Service policies and procedures -       Operate computerised record system for the control of items issued/received whilst maintaining the confidentiality of information consistent with policies and procedures -       Organising necessary arrangements for effective delivery and collection of home loaned equipment -       Plan routes efficiently, liaising with office staff and in accordance with patient/carer -       Effective use of asset handheld scanner in scanning in / out items of equipment delivered or collected. -       All drivers out in the community must follow the lone working policy set out by the Service and Operational manager.
