Shift Pattern - Working 5 days out of 7 covering weekend working. Working pattern - Week 1: 8am - 4pm, Week 2:  2pm - 10pm (Rotating weeks)

This busy service is vital to the efficient running of the operating theatres and departments. The service offers a team environment where skills and expertise are integral to the smooth running of the department. We are looking for highly motivated and friendly staff to join our team who will be committed to delivering a first class service preparing decontamination of all instrumentation. The opportunity has arisen for an  HSDU Assistant Technician with experience working in a production environment.

There are 3 areas within HSDU wash area (Decontamination), Clean room (pack room), Autoclave (Sterilisation) that will be a rota for each area.

Main duties of the job

  • The opportunity has arisen for an  HSDU Assistant Technician with ideally experience working in a production environment.
  • To assist in the provision of a quality controlled decontamination service to customers, both internal and external.
  • To undertake production duties, in a team environment.
  • The successful candidate should have proven communication skills and it is essential that they can demonstrate that they are able to work as part of a team and on their own initiative.
  • They will assist in the decontamination of reusable Medical Devices theatre instruments. The department uses a fully computerised production track and traceability system, therefore a reasonable knowledge of using computers is essential.
  • Attention to detail and concentration is a key factor within this role to ensure all processes are followed to meet our quality standards and to give our patients the best service we can.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work in all areas within or associated in the department on a rotational basis.
  • To carry out delegated specific and unsupervised duties in support of the HSDU, including general housekeeping duties as required.
  • To assist with the preparation of the area for the cleaning, inspection, packing and sterilising of instruments and equipment.
  • To assist in the cleaning, inspection, packing, labelling and sterilisation of instruments and equipment as used by both internal and external customers.
  • To assist in maintaining a safe environment for staff, and visitors, reporting any untoward incidents, accidents or potential hazards to the Team Leader/Production Supervisor.
  • To provide assistance in the transportation of equipment, goods and instruments to and from HSDU, (this does not include Theatres).
  • To contribute to effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To assist in the maintenance of appropriate legible and correct records, ensuring such information is kept securely and out of reach of unauthorised persons.
  • To participate in all duty rotas, i.e. late shift, early shift, weekend cover.
  • To perform any other duties as delegated by Production Manager/Team Leader, which are deemed to come within the scope of this post.
  • To contribute to the efficient and effective stock control and management of resources.
  • To date-check all instruments/trays on a regular basis.

Education and Training

  • To participate in the Trust’s Induction Programme
  • To attend mandatory training, as required.
  • To participate in the orientation and induction of staff to the HSDU as appropriate.
  • To participate in the staff appraisal process
  • To take responsibility for own personal developments

Quality system

  • Ability to follow written instructions to enable compliance to the department’s Quality Assurance Procedures.

Professional

  • To act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and the Trust, where appropriate, by promoting a professional image
