Job overview

Ward 3ABCD are looking for an organised, dynamic person to cover for a minimum of 6 months as the Housekeeper. We are a 28 bedded acute general paediatric ward with 10 assessment beds on Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). We require a caring, compassionate, friendly and highly motivated Housekeeper to join our team. You must possess excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team and have the ability to work in a busy and challenging environment whilst using your own initiative.

Main duties of the job

  • To clear crockery, etc used outside routine clearing periods.
  • To tidy/clean sluice and linen storage areas as required.
  • To tidy and clean other areas on the ward on a daily or weekly as planned/scheduled.
  • To assist with meals, support patients, staff and relatives as required as the ward has a protected meal times policy.
  • To support with hydration and nutrition rounds.
  • Cleaning of all equipment on the ward.
  • Ordering of stock/supplies and storage.
  • To create and maintain effective working relationships with other members of staff.
  • To answer the telephone in a professional manner.
  • To follow Health and Safety policies relevant to working environment and attend mandatory updates in accordance with Trust policy e.g. fire procedure and food hygiene.
  • To adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • To highlight potential hazards to the Nurse in Charge.
  • To handle appropriate equipment safely, following training/instruction.
  • To decontaminate equipment according to infection control policies.
  • To report faulty equipment to the Estates Department.
  • To work under the direction of the Nurse in Charge with any duties/ support requested.

  • Participate in regular supervision.
  • Attend all mandatory training.
  • Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal.
  • Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
  • Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary.
  • Maintain professional conduct including appearance at all time
