Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our established team, supporting the Endoscopy Units based at the NNUH and QI.

You will work alongside colleagues to ensure all areas within the department are clean, safe, and welcoming for both patients and staff. Duties will include tasks such as changing bed linen, cleaning specialised equipment, organising store cupboards, and ordering stock.

Main duties of the job

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with nursing, medical, technical, ancillary, and administrative colleagues.
  • Assist with cleaning duties and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness in all areas.
  • Support the cleaning, decontamination, and quality testing of specialised equipment in line with local policies.
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance of ward-level equipment, ensuring faults are reported promptly, accurate records are maintained, and equipment is retrieved and returned as required.
  • Check linen allocation daily, report any issues to the Ward Coordinator, and liaise with the linen room to resolve problems. Ensure soiled linen is correctly bagged and disposed of in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is available and ready for use at all beds, including oxygen tubing, masks, and suction equipment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Check oxygen and suction is working is working correctly and ensure portable oxygen cylinders are full
  • Ensure adequate stocks of items are in areas as required and assist with the ordering of stores and stationery supplies. Know how to use Powergate where applicable
  • Put supplies and stationery away in storage areas as required
  • Keep all storage areas clean and neat and promote a safe working environment
  • Make refreshments and wash up as required
  • To welcome new patients to the ward.  Have water jugs etc. by bedside for them on admission
  • To assist patients with their diets as required.  Liaise closely with patient chefs
