Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro-active Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team in our Histopathology department as the Training Lead across Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.

In this role you will be responsible for the development and delivery of an efficient and effective, UKAS compliant, programme of training and competency assessment across the Histopathology Service. We are a busy service processing approximately 60,000 samples per year. We are focused on delivering a high-performing, high quality and fully compliant service focussed on our patient’s needs. To support this we are committed to training and developing the best pathology staff where you will play an integral part in day-to-day training, and facilitating their development and careers. You will liaise with all levels of histopathology staff to support the training needs within the service.

You will be a Biomedical scientist by background, HCPC registered with significant experience within a Histopathology / Cellular Pathology NHS laboratory with experience training staff.

This is a role where you can develop your training and managerial skills, including being supported in your own professional development with in-house and external course opportunities available.

Main duties of the job

To facilitate the training and development needs for all staff in the Histology Service (excluding Medical Consultants).

Ensure that the training and development needs, of the Histology staff are identified, communicated in an effective manner and recorded.

Develop and maintain a system of recording training and development that meets as a minimum, ISO 15189: standards for the Histology

Under the direction of the service lead, will organise training and development for staff of the Histology Service and users of its services.

Maintain own competence and contribute in technical areas upon requirements of the service.
