You will be responsible for delivering a highly specialist service to young people and young adults in post 16 college provisions, and the college staff. You will be working with learners with a range of communication needs. This may include learning disabilities, autism, Down’s syndrome and sensory impairments. Some use AAC including Makaton signing, low- and high-tech communication aids. Intervention includes assessments and therapy for individuals or groups. A knowledge of communication strategies used with the client group is essential.
You will be involved in carrying out audits and developing communication friendly environments, and providing targeted and universal support to college and families. You will also be upskilling staff teams and providing training and coaching to staff on how best to support learners.
