Job overview

ABUHB is looking for a passionate & innovative Speech & Language Therapist to join our growing & incredibly supportive SLT & MDT teams working with patients with head & neck cancer related communication and/or swallowing impairments (0.4 WTE) for a fixed term contract of 6 months.

ABUHB is well-respected & renowned for head & neck cancer surgery,  you will work with patients pre & post surgery. We are a research active team & contribute to a number of national clinical trials. We benefit from a wide range of bandings and support from a dedicated SLTA. The MDT is collaborative & the contribution of SLT is highly sought after & respected.

This role will enable you to use your own initiative to meet the different needs of patients, as well as being part of an experienced, specialist, diverse, friendly & supportive team. The wider team comprises of SLTs skilled in other medical diagnoses across community & acute settings.  We pride ourselves on sharing knowledge between our specialities & working closely as a small team. The post is supported by an 8a Principal SLT in Head & Neck cancer & the team includes band 6 SLTs & band 4 SLTAs.

Main duties of the job

- To manage a caseload of outpatients with dysphagia and communication disorders related to head and neck cancer and laryngectomy

- To provide input to inpatient and outpatients with head and neck cancer pre and post surgery/ oncology treatment

- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team

- To improve and develop services in line with patient need

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 6 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
