Job overview

We are looking for a  motivated and versatile team player to join our therapy team within the Surgical team to lead on 3 surgical wards working within the MDT.  These wards cover several surgical specialities such as general surgery, elective orthopaedics, gynae-oncology and neurosurgery.

The Royal London Hospital is offering an opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to work in a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment, and clinical management of patients across the surgical service.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Physiotherapy; excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.

As a Band 7 physiotherapist you will have the opportunity to develop your own supervisory and management skills through supporting and supervising junior therapists, students and/or therapy support workers. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on quality improvement and education within the acute medicine setting.

The role is for a full time post and includes being a member of the Respiratory On Call Rota, as well as covering a weekend service.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership across the RLH Surgical & Vascular pathway.

  • To communicate effectively with other health care professionals, social services, and outside particularly regarding patient care, progress, and planning of rehabilitation and/or discharge needs.
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day clinical and operational management ensuring professional delivery of the physiotherapy service with support for the Surgical & Vascular Therapy Team.
  • To deputise for and support the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist when and where required.
  • Undertake a team leader role, working alongside the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist and fellow Band 7 therapists, in planning, co-ordinating, delivering, and evaluating the physiotherapy service provided for patients across Surgical & Vascular Pathway.
  • To take a lead role in the assessment, treatment, and management of complex patients including those who have had surgeries under the specialities of general surgery, elective orthopaedics, gynae-oncology, neuro-surgery, neuro-oncology, trauma and vascular. The role includes occasional cross cover onto the Vascular ward with patients who have had major amputations.
  • To work with the Clinical Lead Therapist to develop the service to best meet changing health and social care agendas. To provide clinical leadership and skill development to the Surgical & Vascular Therapy Team.
