An exciting opening has arisen in the ABUHB Occupational Therapy (OT) service for an experienced Occupational Therapist, who is self-motivated, proactive, and able to actively engage in developing care pathways and new ways of working for the delivery of the OT service. Based in the community (physical based at Ty Gwent, Cwmbran) you will undertake a clinical delivery and leadership role, working as a highly specialist practitioner with the community neurology team. You will support and develop the delivery of occupational therapy interventions, whilst carrying a varied caseload of people who have been or in the process of being diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition and under the care of the neurologist/clinical Nurse Specialist.
Working in collaboration with the Professional Clinical Lead, the post holder will lead and influence the ongoing development of OT provision within defined clinical areas, with a focus on supporting people across the spectrum of interventions from pre diagnosis to end of life support.
The post holder will be expected to deliver a range of occupationally focused assessment and intervention techniques and will join a team that works with people in the community to deliver place-based support to prevent unnecessary admissions, maintain and improve the individual’s functional abilities and overall quality of life.
The post offers opportunity to deliver a wide variety of assessments and interventions with individuals in their own homes, community locations as well as in clinic settings.
The post offers opportunities to be incredibly creative in treatment planning, and work with Individuals over focused periods of time to support them in achieving varied goals. The post holder show commitment to continually developing knowledge, skills and experience in condition management, complex moving and handling, major adaptations and specialist seating and support the development of team members and students as part of their clinical leadership role
Postgraduate experience of working with individuals with neurological conditions is essential as is the ability to work flexibly and proactively to deliver a prompt and clinically effective service.

Main duties of the job
All applicants will be expected to have strong clinical and decision-making skills in order to demonstrate a depth and breadth of ability in working with people with complex, longer-term conditions.
You will need excellent communication skills, have initiative and a flexible approach to work. You must be confident and effective in the use of ensuring the delivery of OT interventions, to ensure they are carried out in the most appropriate setting for the person admitted to hospital. This will ensure and evidence that these interventions meet the person’s needs and organisation’s expectations of safe, compassionate and high-quality care.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
