Job overview

The Tri-borough Learning Disabilities Service in Hammersmith and Fulham is a well-established and highly regarded team, dedicated to delivering high-quality care for individuals with learning disabilities. We pride ourselves on a collaborative, inclusive approach where psychology plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering services tailored to the needs of our service users.

We are looking for an experienced, qualified psychologist with a passion for working in adult learning disability services. In this role, you will have the opportunity to deliver specialist psychological assessments and interventions, offering expert advice and consultation to both non-psychologist colleagues and the families who access our service.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with individuals with learning disabilities, autism and behaviours of concern. You will provide direct and indirect support to service users, their families, carers and other professionals, ensuring a holistic, person-centred approach.

Our service has strong links with the North London Doctoral Training Courses in Clinical Psychology, regularly hosting clinical placements for doctoral trainees, which makes this role ideal for those committed to both personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

  • Specialist Psychological Assessments:You will carry out detailed psychological assessments of clients with complex and challenging needs, using a variety of tools such as neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales and structured interviews. These assessments will involve working with clients, family members, carers and other relevant individuals to gain a thorough understanding of the client's psychological state.
  • Psychological Formulation and Treatment Planning:You will create comprehensive psychological treatment and management plans for clients, using evidence-based practices. This includes formulating interventions based on a solid conceptual framework of the client’s difficulties, ensuring the plans are appropriate across a variety of care settings.
  • Implementation of Interventions:You will lead the implementation of a wide range of psychological interventions, tailored to individuals, families and groups. This may involve working across different teams, adjusting interventions as needed, and refining psychological formulations while maintaining an open mind to multiple hypotheses.

Applications are welcome from  candidates who meet the majority of the essential criteria; consideration may be given to appointment at Band 7 on a developmental basis with progression to Band 8a subject to meeting the required competencies within an agreed timeframe.
