Job overview

The successful postholder will work out of our brand new community diagnostic centre. To act as highly specialised cardiac physiologist. To perform and report independantly on echocardiography exams to BSE standard.

To support junior staff in the accreditation process and to assiste with quality assurance.

To assist with all aspects of operational activities at the CDC with regards to cardiology.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide expert knowledge in highly specialist clinical areas and without supervision carry out a broad range of complex echocardiography
  • Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to BSE standard
  • Analyse, interpret and write reports for above clinical procedures based on knowledge and experience of normal and abnormal criteria.
  • To provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding results to enable further development of individual care plans.
  • To lead in the support of all cardiac physiologists in training
  • Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations.
  • Continue to develop highly specialist knowledge and experience including sufficient CPD to maintain professional registration
  • To have responsibility for stock control in designated areas ensure stock levels are maintained appropriately and tracking of high value items.
  • Adheres to Trust policies and procedures
  • Actively maintain a safe working environment in accordance with H&S and COSHH policies.
  • Maintain adherence to relevant guidelines for infectious diseases including staying up-to-date with donning and doffing of appropriate PPE.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Lead Cardiac Physiologist or General Manager of the CDC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Use specialist expertise underpinned by theory and experience to provide a high level of specialist technical and clinical expertise in a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests and procedures. To liaise effectively with service managers and other physiologists to provide a clinical physiological service. Ensuring a high level of clinical excellence and patient care.

Performs transthoracic echocardiography, (TTE) using manual dexterity and precision, exercising specialist judgemental skills when acquiring images.

To produce a full, accurate and comprehensive clinical reports independently for each study, which will directly affect patient care and/or management. Responsibility for own caseload.

Responsible along with the other Band 7 Physiologist for the operational responsibility of the department on a day to day basis. This includes a clinical workload (i.e. performing and/or reporting on all the non-invasive tests) as well as day to day supervision of the junior staff.

To take a leading role in staff development and training as required.

Will need to successfully liaise on operational matters with the Heart Centre at Darent Valley Hospital.
