We are inviting applications for our Hepatology Fellowship at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is offered for one-year fixed term and suited to individuals who are considering a career in Gastroenterology in the UK. Applicants will have completed core medical training or the equivalent, be registered with the GMC and have experience working within the NHS. Extensive Gastroenterology experience is not a requirement

Main duties of the job

This post has been developed to innovative our community health liver healthcheck and surveillance programs, specifically aiming to enhance engagement in underserved communities, reduce non-attendance and improve liver outcomes. Working with our consultant hepatologists, specialist nurses, surveillance navigators and admin teams, the post holder will design and test different tools to improve engagement in all aspects of out-patient liver care including cancer surveillance & clinic attendance. Oversight of data collection, write up and where appropriate, publication will sit within the post holders remit.

In addition, the post holder will contribute to inpatient gastro/hep ward duties (20 days over the year), deliver hepatology outpatient clinics in the community and contribute to out of hours working (to be determined by experience level).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Deliver supervised out-patient Hepatology clinics in the community
  • Provide in-hours middle grade support to inpatient Gastroenterology areas (shared across all IMT3 and above resident doctors in Gastroenterology)
  • Out of hours working will be GIM or Gastroenterology based dependent upon experience These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service.  If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues, and the Trust
