Newham Hospital is seeking to recruit a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) to join our Medical Wards team, specifically Thistle Ward (Care of the Elderly).

This opportunity is open to both experienced Healthcare Support Workers and individuals who are new to care. Candidates who are new to care will receive structured support to complete the Band 3 competencies and will progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies. Until competencies are achieved, successful applicants will be appointed at a Band 2 salary.

We are looking for compassionate, motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a hospital setting.

The role involves undertaking a range of delegated clinical tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including:

  • Monitoring and recording patient observations (e.g., vital signs)
  • Assisting with personal care and supporting mobility
  • Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  • Undertaking delegated clinical duties (e.g., blood pressure monitoring, ECG recording, MRSA screening)
  • Performing simple wound dressings

Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Healthcare Support Worker will be an integral part of the ward/department team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurses, nurse associates and midwives. The post holder will develop essential competencies though training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority
